The Aetiology of Disconnection and the Metaphysics of Reconnection

Knowledge and morality have failed. They have failed to instil a love of otherness. We must therefore conclude that the cognitive realm to be drawn upon is not primarily that of the rational and moral intellect. The question is metaphysical, and the very notion of otherness must be examined within this framework. In principle, the relevant (and irrelevant…) questions should concern the narrative that Western humanity tells itself about itself and the world – that is to say, its contemporary mythology, dominated by scientism. But to do so, we must shatter the glass ceiling of Reason, founded on materialist dualism. It is imperative and urgent to reposition innovation within its proper sphere—that of metaphysics—in order to initiate a liberating and uplifting popular mythology, capable of bringing about an anthropological metamorphosis. A metamorphosis to hasten the end of the old human and the awakening of a human being who is dignified and part of the world’s harmony. This book suggests that such an alternative mythological narrative is possible. It is an invitation to renew the imagination, in keeping with the Traditions of Connection, but in a modernised language, breaking with alienating Western ideology, and capable of regenerating and universalising connection, so as to make otherness desirable and to sanctify existence.
